SHELL SERIES

The stillness of lockdown gave me the space to turn inward and reconnect with experimentation. After moving to Matakana in 2021, long walks along the beach drew my attention to the quiet beauty of pipi shells — their delicate curves, weathered surfaces and subtle variations in colour.

Fascinated by the natural marks and textures etched into each shell, I began exploring their surfaces through abstraction. Using a palette knife and paper, I worked intuitively with sweeping gestures, layered colour and texture, allowing the shapes to evolve beyond their original inspiration.
